Colour and texture

Halfway through 2025 I revisited the slip transfer technique. This is a well known and widely used technique by potters wishing to transfer complex designs, texture and colour to their work. I have used it for many years, and taught many students the basics of this highly versatile technique. The beauty of slip transfer is that it doesn't require any special tools or materials and you can give your creative juices free rein.

I made up some slip colours, rolled out some slabs and started playing around with ideas. I have always liked the effect achieved from throwing a base to a pot and then attaching slabs. It opens up endless possibilities. Creating highly decorated slabs and attaching them takes this to another level. Thus was born the DOODLES series of pots. I love the vibrancy of these pots. Every face is different and offers the viewer a different perspective.

This is the first DOODLE pot I made, and I love it!

And yet another perspective.
And yet another perspective.

I'll be loading some of these on the shop over the next few months.
